National Air and Space Museum & the U. S. Capitol

We had a wonderful weekend in Washington DC. Got up bright and early for our trip to DC. We passed through one of my favorite states: Virginia.

The kids each had their own ways to pass the time. Delaney opted for a little nap.

Alyssa entertained us with music she played on her Gatorade bottle. (You had to be there!)

Braxton colored up a storm.

Getting ready for the Metro. Honestly, it is always a highlight of our trip.

The National Air and Space Museum is amazing! It is one of the most popular Smithsonian museums. There is so much to do there. You could spend hours upon hours and still not really see everything.

The Wright Flyer was the first powered plane to be flown with a pilot. It flew four times on Dec. 17, 1903 near Kill Devil Hills which is just south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The Spirit of St. Louis was flown by Charles Lindbergh on the first non-stop solo flight from New York to Paris on May 20-21, 1927. It really is quite a beautiful plane.

There is a solar system exhibit.

Our favorite exhibits were about World War I and World War II. They were quite informative and beautifully created. Loved the information on the Red Baron.

Hotch was invaluable on this trip with all of his useless facts that he was thrilled to finally share with all of us. Alyssa and Braxton are the best of friends! They have way too much fun together.

We had fun in the museum store. Bought some freeze-dried "astronaut" ice cream and more books.

In the basement they had Yoda!

We almost bought this one. Reminded us of the night we packed up to leave.

I freely admit that I am a Star Trek Enterprise fan. It was so cool seeing the original model.

One of the cheapest places to eat on the National Mall is the McDonald's inside the National Air and Space Museum. Don't worry we all had salads and it didn't break the bank.

Sometimes one needs a time out in order to remember the rules.

Love the men in my life! Aren't they handsome!

We love the Capitol Building!

Having some fun on the Capitol Building's ground.

Rolling down the hill and doing somersaults are a must!

Sunset over the National Mall.

My favorite shot of the Capitol. Love the colors!

After walking six extra blocks in search of a restroom, the kids were so grateful to be getting onto the Metro.

How sweet is this! They totally crashed on the way back to the car.

It was an incredible first day in Washington DC. So grateful that we live close enough to visit often.
