Western Texas & Southern New Mexico

When we left our hotel in Pecos, TX (seriously in the middle of nowhere) we had no idea the desolation we would be driving through to get to Carlsbad Caverns National Park. As a reminder you must fill up on gas before leaving the city because there is nothing once you leave Pecos, TX. It would be miserable to be stuck out here especially in the heat of the summer or over night. Since we drove this stretch during the spring with its mild temperature and blooming flowers it was a long, but decent drive.

Loved the desert flowers we spotted along the way!

The view from here went on forever. It was amazing!

These photos crack me up because Hotch is mimicking the kids and how they take pictures when the sun is out. They get so dramatic at times!

The desert is lovely in the western part of Texas!

Later in the day we planned to visit the Guadalupe Mountains National Park which can be seen far in the background. Beautiful!

We passed into New Mexico on our way and it looks just like Texas. Desolate, but has lovely desert flowers in the spring.

The drive through Carlsbad Caverns National Park from the entrance to the visitor center was picturesque. It was a sight to see!

The desert in springtime is amazing!

There are caves all along the drive. We wonder how many of them hook up to the Carlsbad Caverns we were about to walk through.

Ocotillos have the most incredible flowers!

We were blown away by the drive up to the Carlsbad Caverns National Park visitor center. The views were sweeping!

Aren't these pretty little flowers? Globemallows always remind me of when I was a girl. They grew in the fields behind my home and I used to pick them.

The blooming cactus were really amazing!

Love these cactus flowers!

Delaney and Braxton went with me to check out the cactus. Weirdos!

Sad to see these abandoned hotel rooms at the entrance/exit to the Carlsbad Caverns National Park. They are really beautiful and I wish we could fix them up.

The drive between Texas and New Mexico is gorgeous. We really enjoyed it!
