On the last day of Alyssa's Surprise Birthday Trip we went to her final surprise: the Sunsphere in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is located in Knoxville's World's Fair Park which is a gorgeous park downtown. As you drive on the highway you can see it off to the side. It is totally worth a stop and an hour of your time. Promise it will not disappoint!
The Sunsphere is really beautiful in person. There is an elevator you can take to the observation deck. It is free and open to the public from 9am-10pm in the spring/summer and 11am-6pm in the fall/winter.
If you don't like heights this might not be the place for you! I was a little nervous looking straight down, but the view was really beautiful!
It was interesting to see how everyone reacted to the height. Hotch and Delaney had no problems. Delaney wanted to get as close to the glass as she could, which was freaking me out a little. Braxton didn't mind the height at all. He thought it was cool! I was uneasy if I went too close and looked straight down. Alyssa surprised me because she was very nervous. She would only go within a foot of the railing and was a little scared.
Here is the view of beautiful University of Tennessee, Knoxville founded in 1794.
The Sunsphere was built for the 1982 World's Fair. In the observation room there is a bunch of information about the Sunsphere along the walls.
The obligatory photo with the gorgeous park and university in the background. Afterward everyone had to do some silly ones. The kids looked acting scared. Our kids are dorks!
Aww! They are the best of friends!
Brax and Lane couldn't wait to get near the water. They asked at least 20 times if they could go see it and get wet.

It was neat going to look out on Knoxville. We had a bunch of fun! Had to get in our photos with the Sunsphere in the background. Unless you walk far enough away you will have to kneel on the ground and awkwardly position yourself to get a shot with people in it.
